The Lincoln College Lady Lynx are living up to the preseason hype. Before the basketball season began there was a lot of buzz about this 2017-18 team and so far the ladies have not disappointed fans. The Lady Lynx notched victories recently over two area teams known for their solid basketball programs.

On Wednesday last week the Lady Lynx edged out no. 8 nationally-ranked Illinois Central College 67-64. Lincoln trailed 32-26 at the half but outscored the Lady Cougars 22-15 in the third quarter to take a 48-47 lead going into the final quarter. Lincoln held their own in the fourth quarter and sealed the 67-64 win at home as Erynn Young led all scorers with 20 points. Allysha Boothe poured in 15 points for the Lady Lynx and Nautica Preston tossed in 13 points.

On Saturday the Lady Lynx traveled to Champaign to play at no.18 nationally-ranked Parkland College and this game was won by a much wider margin. Lincoln won 81-57 over the Cobras. Lincoln placed five players in double figures: Erynn Young (22), Kaleia Monteiro (13), Emoni Smith (13) Nautica Preston (12) and Allysah Boothe (10).

Lincoln College Coach Matt Vavro is pleased with the team’s performance so far this season. "Our patience offensively has really developed and we are taking good shots. Our team defense has been great lately and starts our offense. The victory over ICC gave the girls a lot of confidence and I believe that carried over into the beginning of the Parkland game as we were fortunate to get off to a good start. We are playing great team basketball right now.”

New national rankings will come out later today and look for Lincoln College among the top teams.

Catch these ladies in action this week at home when Lincoln College will host Danville Area Community College on Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m.
