LINCOLN
Girls on the Run of Central Illinois is excited to announce the
addition of a community team at the Lincoln Park District facility
in Lincoln.
Utilizing a fun, experience-based curriculum, the program creatively
integrates running to inspire 3rd through 8th grade girls to be
joyful, healthy and confident. With more than 75 partner sites
across central Illinois, including the new Lincoln Park District
site, Girls on the Run of Central Illinois will serve more than
1,100 girls this school year.
“Our community teams are a great way for girls from different
schools and backgrounds to come together, make new friends, and
learn from each other,” says Jennifer Sublett, Executive Director of
Girls on the Run. “We have had great success with our community
teams in Springfield and are excited to bring this opportunity to
our girls in Lincoln.”
The interactive curriculum is fun and challenging, covering
meaningful topics such as self-awareness, building healthy
relationships, and developing personal strengths while engaging in
physical activities. The after-school lessons are led by trained
coaches who guide the girls through the 10-week program and help
prepare them for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. At
the end of the program season, girls, coaches, family and friends
complete a celebratory 5k together.

In order to host a team at the Lincoln Park District, Girls on the Run is
seeking coaches to volunteer 90 minutes twice per week from September 4 through
the 5k on November 10. Girls on the Run coaches are as unique as the girls they
serve. Just like the girls, many are not runners. They are women and men who
take great pride and care in role modelling character, connectedness, and inner
strength.

About Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run is an international, non-profit prevention program that
prepares girls ages 8-13 to run 3.1 miles and educates them about healthy
physical, emotional, and social lifestyles. The program empowers girls at an
early age to prevent the display of future at-risk behaviors, giving girls
greater self-confidence, a stronger sense of identity, a healthier body image,
and a better sense of community. As an international program, Girls on the Run
has served more than 300,000 girls since its creation in 1996. Girls on the Run
of Central Illinois is an independent council of Girls on the Run International.
The program is delivered in the autumn and the spring at both public and private
elementary and middle schools in central Illinois.
