[July 09, 2018]    Free agent left winger Patrick Maroon is in talks with his hometown St. Louis Blues, according to a report from The Athletic on Sunday.

Per an initial report from The Athletic's Jeremy Rutherford, the Blues invested several days in convincing the seven-year veteran to join the team, and he was set to do so.

However, Maroon's agent, Ben Hankinson, later told Rutherford that no deal with the Blues was near completion and that other teams remained in the running to sign his client.

Maroon, who was born in St. Louis and attended Oakville High School in St. Louis County, earned $2.1 million last season while playing for the Edmonton Oilers and the New Jersey Devils, who acquired him at the trade deadline for prospect J.D. "Joey" Dudek and a third-round pick.

The 30-year-old finished the season with 17 goals and 26 assists in 74 games, including three goals and 10 assists during 17 contests with the Devils. He added one goal in five playoff games.

A sixth-round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers in 2007, Maroon broke into the league with the Anaheim Ducks in 2011 and spent parts of five seasons there before a trade to the Oilers in February 2016. He has 78 goals and 100 assists in 375 career games.

The Blues have been active this offseason, trading for Ryan O'Reilly and signing Tyler Bozak and David Perron.
