Free community event at Memorial to teach participants how to handle life-threatening bleeds

[July 23, 2018]  Featuring life-like simulations in the Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation, a free community event will teach the public how to handle life-threatening bleeding incidents.

The program, “Stop The Bleed,” will be offered in two sessions on Saturday, Aug. 18. Participants can register for either session.

The first session will run from 9 to 11:30 a.m.; the second session will run from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Registration will be in the M.G. Nelson Family Auditorium on the MCLI's first floor. Enrollment is limited to 60 participants each session.

"An injury can cause a person to bleed to death in less than five minutes," said Jenn Davis, director of emergency medical services at Memorial Medical Center. "Life-threatening bleeds can happen at home, at work or in the community from either a natural or intentional wound. This course will help participants learn how to act immediately to save themselves or someone else."

The event is open to any age, and attendees should dress for active participation. Each participant will receive a free bleeding control kit.

The Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation (MCLI) is at 228 W. Miller St., at the southeast corner of Rutledge and Miller streets. Free parking is available in the parking garage south of the MCLI at Rutledge and Carpenter streets.

The Memorial Medical Center Foundation provided funding for the free community event.
