Wild sign ex-Flyers F Read to two-way contract

[July 31, 2018]  The Minnesota Wild signed former Philadelphia Flyers right winger Matt Read to a two-way contract on Monday.

Per the Wild's press release, Read's deal is for one year and is worth $650,000 for time in the NHL and $200,000 for time in the AHL.

Read, who turned 32 last month, has played seven seasons in the NHL, all with Philadelphia. Last season he failed to win a spot with the Flyers out of training camp and spent most of the season with Lehigh Valley in the AHL. In 19 games with the Flyers, he had one goal and no assists.

Read first burst onto the NHL scene with the Flyers in 2011-12 when he scored 24 goals and added 23 assists. Read earned favor under then-coach Peter Laviolette's up-tempo style and became a top-line player in his first few seasons, leading to a four-year, $14.5 million deal signed in September 2013.

However, after scoring 57 goals (19 goals per season) in his first three NHL seasons, Read has netted just 30 goals the past four years (7.5 per season).

In his seven seasons, Read has 87 goals and 100 assists in 437 games.
