[June 01, 2018]   LINCOLN - Trinity Episcopal Church in Lincoln held their annual Feast Day Sunday at which they celebrate the naming of their church in Illinois. In conjunction with their founding festivities, Trinity Episcopal has for the past four years recognized local and international organizations with a monetary award for good works.

“We want to make a difference with our outreach,” said Father Mark Evans, Rector of Trinity Episcopal. The Vestry of the church, the governing body, makes a decision each year as to which local and international organizations they want to recognize. The monetary awards come from funds that the church specifically sets aside for these contributions. “Trinity Episcopal sets aside money every year for just this purpose, because this is who we are,” said Clyde Reynolds, a member of the Vestry.

Instead of dividing small amounts among many organizations, the church chooses just four to receive the funds. “We make a modest but meaningful contribution to the four recipients,” said Father Mark.

This year Trinity Episcopal has recognized local organizations CAPCIL and The Pregnancy Resource Center to receive their donations. On the international stage, they selected Trinity Episcopal Diocese of Peru in South America and the Diocese of Tobora in Africa for their largesse.

CAPCIL was selected for their Meals on Wheels outreach and the Jobs for Life program. Members of Trinity Episcopal volunteer to be mentors in Jobs for Life during which they help people determine how to prepare for and find jobs.

Linda Nelson of The Pregnancy Resource Center of Lincoln was on hand to accept Trinity’s contribution. The Pregnancy Resource Center was started in Lincoln in 1988. Their focus is to help women during pregnancy and for the first four years of a child’s life. It is open to anyone from single moms to families who want to be better parents. All of their services are free, including prenatal care. They also offer workshops on parenting. “We are a Christian based organization with the intention of helping people parent correctly. We really appreciated the people of Lincoln and Trinity Episcopal for their support over the years as all of our operating funds come from donations,” said Nelson, who has been with the Center since 1990.

Trinity Episcopal Church’s membership sees their mission as bringing goodwill and generosity to their community and the world. As Clyde Reynolds said it, “because this is who we are.”
