[June 02, 2018]   Lincoln in the District added as a new Looking for Lincoln Signature Event. To promote visitation to the Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area, Looking for Lincoln has created the Looking for Lincoln Signature Events designation program.

These events take place in Looking for Lincoln Communities and capture the essence of the life and time of Abraham Lincoln by bringing history to life in unique and exciting ways.

Looking for Lincoln newest signature event, Lincoln in the District celebrates Quincy's Lincoln legacy during this unique festival on the historic downtown square. Visitors enjoy living history reenactments with Mr. Lincoln closest Quincy friends. They will experience authentic rail splitting demonstrations, period crafts and children's activities. Learn about Civil War medical practices and field embalming processes or enjoy a horse drawn carriage ride. The event will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 in downtown Quincy.

The 2018 roster of Looking for Lincoln Signature Events also includes:

History Comes Alive (June-August 2018)

This summer-long living history program brings the historic Springfield of Lincoln's day to life with period re-enactments, musical and theatrical performances and more as Springfield's Lincoln historic sites and downtown are transport you back to the city Lincoln loved.

Lincoln Days Civil War Reenactment at Lake Pittsfield (June 2-3, 2018)

This weekend event gives visitors a front row seat at a Civil War battle and the life soldiers, officers, doctors and others who served on the front lines.

Lincoln's Festival on Route 66 (July 20-22, 2018)

McLean County celebrates its ties to Abraham Lincoln as well as Historic U.S. Route 66 in this weekend event. Share in the stories, and in the fun, at a variety of sites throughout the Bloomington-Normal area- where history comes alive through period reenactments, concerts, storytelling, theatrical performances, children's games and crafts, a classic car show and much, much, more.

Looking for Lincoln Area at the Illinois State Fair (August 10-19, 2018)

Each year during the Illinois State Fair history comes to life on the lawn of the Illinois Building. Visitors can build with Lincoln Logs, watch period demonstrations such as blacksmithing or broom making and enjoy period music.
