Illinois motorcycle owners now have an
opportunity to join car owners from across the state to support
perhaps the most famous road in the world, Route 66, by registering
for the newly released Illinois Route 66 Motorcycle Plate. State
Representative Tim Butler of the 87th District who sponsored the
legislation that brought the plate to reality noted, "Route 66 is a
historic part of our American culture. The Mother Road starts in
downtown Chicago and stretches across more than 300 miles of
Illinois land and passes through six other states to California."
Bill Kelly, Executive Director of the Illinois Route 66 Scenic Byway
observed that, "Illinois residents that ride will now be able to
enjoy a distinctive Route 66 Motorcycle Plate that also provides
funding to support preservation and promotion of this legendary
highway in our state." Tourists from around the world travel Route
66 looking to experience some American nostalgia, bringing millions
of dollars of economic impact to communities along the route.
