McKenzie, who won two titles with Bruins, dies at 80

[June 11, 2018]    Johnny "Pie" McKenzie, a fan favorite on two Boston Bruins championship teams in the 1970s, died on Friday at the age of 80.

McKenzie had been confined to his bed due to a long illness when he passed.

McKenzie was a 5-foot-9, 170-pound right wing for the Bruins for seven seasons, including the title-winning teams of 1970 and 1972.

He was known for his hustle and annoying other players, but was also a capable offensive player. He racked up 17 points in 14 games during the Bruins' 1970 title run and 17 points in 15 games in '72.

McKenzie finished his NHL career with 474 points in 691 games, also racking up 917 penalty minutes in that time.

Outside of his seven years in Boston, McKenzie played for the Red Wings, Rangers and Blackhawks of the NHL, plus a host of World Hockey Association teams in a career that spanned 21 professional seasons.

McKenize was elected to the WHA's Hall of Fame in 2010.
