[June 28, 2018]    The Pittsburgh Penguins are shipping left wing Conor Sheary and defenseman Matt Hunwick to the Buffalo Sabres, the Penguins confirmed Wednesday.

The Penguins are set to receive a conditional fourth-round pick in 2019 in return.

The move clears up $5.25 million in cap room for the Penguins, which they utilized later in the day by re-signing forward Riley Sheahan to a one-year, $2.1 million contract.

Sheary, who turned 26 earlier in June, had 18 goals and 12 assists last season, while Hunwick, 33, finished with four goals and six assists in 42 games. Both players are signed through the 2019-20 season.

--The Chicago Blackhawks traded backup goaltender Jean-Francois Berube to the Columbus Blue Jackets for forward Jordan Schroeder.

Berube, who turns 27 next month, signed a two-year deal with the Hawks last July and was largely ineffective in 13 games, including 10 starts. He made one appearance in December and then was called up from American Hockey League affiliate Rockford in February, going 3-6-1 with a 3.78 goals-against average and .894 save percentage on the year.

The 27-year-old Schroeder appeared in just 21 games with the Blue Jackets last season, spending more of his time with the AHL's Cleveland Monsters. Schroeder posted 36 points in 48 games with Cleveland, but only scored one goal with one assist for Columbus.

--The Arizona Coyotes announced the signing of pending unrestricted free agent Kevin Connauton to a new two-year contract.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but a report from 98.7 FM Arizona Sports says Connauton will earn $2.75 million over the life of the pact. Connauton, a defenseman, was set to become an unrestricted free agent on Sunday.

In 73 games with the Coyotes last season, Connauton scored a career-high 11 goals and matched his previous personal best of 10 assists. His campaign was cut short when he was shut down with an upper-body injury in April.
