Vernon “Dean” Schachtele, 85, of Lincoln, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at St. Clara’s Manor in Lincoln.

Vernon was born on August 31, 1932 in Logan County, the son of Fred and Barbara (Lind) Schachtele. He married Jewell M. Rohlfs on July 11, 1953 in Lincoln. She survives in Lincoln.

Vernon is also survived by his children: Brenda Jean Dexter of Lincoln and Tony Dean Schachtele of Lincoln, three grandchildren: Shelley Lynn Dexter-Thomas, Andrew Dexter, and Derek Dexter; four great-grandchildren Brooklyn Thomas, Brayden Thomas, Brileigh Thomas, Drew Dexter. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Phyllis and Irene; two brothers: John and Fritz; son-in-law: Duane Dexter, and one grandson: Matthew Dexter.

Vernon was a lifelong member of Lincoln Christian Church in Lincoln. He retired in 1982 after 32 years of service with Caterpillar.

A Graveside service at New Union Cemetery in Lincoln will be held at 2:15 p.m. Monday March 5, 2018 with Ron Otto officiating.

Memorials may be made in Vernon’s name to Lincoln Christian Church.

Services are entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
