[March 02, 2018]  One period of play between the Bruins and Penguins nearly broke both goal lamps.

Boston and Pittsburgh combined for eight first-period goals in a battle of Eastern Conference heavyweights, and the Bruins set a new season high for goals in an 8-4 victory Thursday night in Boston.

David Krejci had a hat trick (he now has 14 goals), David Pastrnak (24) scored twice and the Bruins also got goals from Rick Nash (20), David Backes (11) and Torey Krug (11). Tuukka Rask stopped 22 of 26 shots, as Boston won its second straight to start a five-game homestand.

Olli Maatta (7) scored twice and former Bruin Phil Kessel (27) and Riley Sheahan (9) each had a goal as the Penguins lost their third straight. Casey DeSmith allowed three goals on five shots before being pulled in favor of Tristan Jarry, who finished with 28 saves.

Hurricanes 4, Flyers 1

Justin Williams scored two goals to lift Carolina past host Philadelphia.

Teuvo Teravainen and Sebastian Aho also scored for the Hurricanes.

Goaltender Cam Ward stopped 21 shots in the win.

Panthers 3, Devils 2

Maxim Mamin scored midway through the third period to lead host Florida to its fourth straight victory in a win over New Jersey.

Mamin flipped a shot on the short side that bounced off the back of Devils goaltender Cory Schneider at 8:38 for his second goal of the season.

Aleksander Barkov added his second goal of the game and 23rd this season on a 2-on-1 break at 16:26 nearly eight minutes later.

Lightning 5, Stars 4 (OT)

Cory Conacher scored with 41 seconds remaining in overtime to lift league-leading Tampa Bay over host Dallas.

Conacher rushed down the right wing and crashed into the crease while being dragged down by Dallas' Jamie Benn but still had enough to get the puck through Dallas netminder Ben Bishop for the game-winner.

The Lightning, 5-0-1 in their past six games and 13-5-1 in their past 19, have the best record in the NHL and hold a seven-point lead on the Toronto Maple Leafs for first place in the Atlantic Division.

Predators 4, Oilers 2

Victor Arvidsson's second goal of the night with 5:08 remaining in the game broke the deadlock and Nashville erased a two-goal deficit with four unanswered markers to beat host Edmonton.

Arvidsson took advantage of yet another poor Oilers decision and converted a play with Filip Forsberg to silence the Edmonton faithful at Rogers Place.

Austin Watson's goal with 3:10 remaining in regulation rounded out the scoring. Predators goalie Pekka Rinne stopped 34 shots for the win, his team's season-high sixth consecutive victory, and was perfect after the Oilers staked themselves to a 2-0 first period lead.

Coyotes 5, Wild 3

Kevin Connauton's goal at 12:04 of the third period stood up as the winner as Arizona beat visiting Minnesota.

Connauton gave the Coyotes a 4-2 advantage just 51 seconds before Matt Cullen brought the Wild back within a goal.

Coyotes goalie Antti Raanta posted his fourth win in five games while stopping 31 of 34 shots.

Sharks 7, Blackhawks 2

Joe Pavelski scored two goals and Dylan DeMelo had three assists as host San Jose routed Chicago.

Logan Couture, Kevin Labanc, Timo Meier, Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Barclay Goodrow also scored goals for the Sharks, which improved to 79 points and maintained their hold on second place in the Pacific Division. Goalie Martin Jones made 32 saves for the win.

Chicago actually scored first, with Artem Anisimov netting his 18th goal of the season just 2:12 into the game. Given time and space to set up a shot in the right circle, Anisimov wired a wrister past Jones' stick side and off the left post before it settled into the net.

Kings 5, Blue Jackets 2

Second-period goals by Nate Thompson, Alex Iafallo and Tanner Pearson and a career-high three-assist night from Christian Folin led host Los Angeles over Columbus.

Jonathan Quick made 30 saves for the Kings, whose victory at Staples Center has them riding a three-game winning streak.

Trailing 2-0 after the first period, the Kings stormed back in the middle frame, starting with Thompson's goal 2:48 into the second period. Taking advantage of a poorly executed Columbus line change, Thompson was sprung on a rush by Folin and beat goalie Joonas Korpisalo with a shot off the far post.
