Spring roundup: Mets' Harvey sharp in win over Tigers

[March 06, 2018]  New York right-hander Matt Harvey pitched three shutout innings and Jose Reyes delivered a two-run double as the Mets recorded a 4-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Monday at Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Harvey is attempting to bounce back from a disastrous 2017 campaign (5-7, 6.70 ERA). He allowed two hits and one walk and struck out one.

Brandon Nimmo hit a solo homer for the Mets. Derek Norris and Victor Reyes had two hits apiece for the Tigers.

Yasmani Grandal, Matt Kemp, Alex Verdugo and DJ Peters all homered as Los Angeles scored seven runs in its last two innings while downing Cleveland at Glendale, Ariz. Right-hander Mike Clevinger struck out six in three hitless innings for the Indians.

Cubs 5, Rockies 4

Ryan Court hit the tiebreaking homer in the top of the ninth and Anthony Rizzo and Ian Happ also went deep as Chicago edged Colorado at Scottsdale, Ariz. Charlie Blackmon hit a two-run blast for the Rockies.

Angels 7, Reds 5

Colin Walsh had three RBIs and Los Angeles defeated Cincinnati at Goodyear, Ariz., despite two-way player Shohei Ohtani going hitless in three at-bats. Rosell Herrera delivered a three-run triple for the Reds.

Astros 5, Marlins 3

Jack Mayfield homered and drove in two runs to help Houston defeat Miami at West Palm Beach, Fla. Magneuris Sierra had an RBI single for the Marlins.

Cardinals 2, Nationals 1

Adolis Garcia lined the tiebreaking double in the fifth inning as St. Louis beat Washington at Jupiter, Fla. Andrew Stevenson homered for the Nationals.

Phillies 4, Twins 3

Rhys Hoskins homered and Carlos Santana and Maikel Franco each recorded run-scoring doubles as Philadelphia edge Minnesota at Clearwater, Fla. Gregorio Petit went deep for the Twins.

Braves 7, Pirates 5

Christian Colon stroked a three-run double and Danny Santana homered as Atlanta slipped past Pittsburgh at Kissimmee, Fla. Starling Marte, Sean Rodriguez, Max Moroff and Jordan Luplow all homered for the Pirates.

Rangers 5, Giants 4

Ryan Rua's eighth-inning sacrifice fly scored the decisive run as Texas defeated San Francisco at Surprise, Ariz. Kyle Jensen hit his fifth homer of the spring for the Giants.

Athletics 9, White Sox 9

Oakland scored four runs with two out in the bottom of the ninth inning on help from two Chicago throwing errors to post a 9-9 tie with the White Sox in Phoenix. Jed Lowrie homered for the Athletics while Matt Skole went deep for Chicago.

Diamondbacks 10, Padres 3

Arizona scored three runs between a balk and two wild pitches from San Diego right-hander Trevor Megill as part of a six-run seventh inning to win in a rout in Peoria, Ariz. Raffy Lopez drove in two runs for the Padres on a ninth-inning homer.
