[March 10, 2018]    Third baseman Mike Moustakas has agreed to a one-year deal to return to the Kansas City Royals, according to multiple reports Friday.

Moustakas can reportedly earn up to $22.5 million if his 2019 season option is picked up. He'll make $5.5 million in 2018, and his $15 million mutual option for 2019 can be bought out for $1 million. He also has the chance to earn additional money through performance incentives.

Moustakas could have received $17.4 million this season by signing a qualifying offer from the Royals in November at the outset of free agency. Because he received the qualifying offer, any team signing him would've been forced to part with a high draft pick.

Moustakas, 29, hit .272 with a franchise-record 38 home runs in 148 games last season. The two-time All-Star has a .251 career average and 119 home runs across his seven seasons with the Royals.

--The Colorado Rockies are on the verge of bringing back three-time All-Star Carlos Gonzalez for another season, according to multiple reports.

Gonzalez became a free agent after concluding a seven-year, $80 million deal and found no takers after a poor 2017 campaign (.262 batting average, 14 home runs, 57 RBIs).

All-Stars Nolan Arenado and Charlie Blackmon are among the players who lobbied the organization to re-sign Gonzalez.

--Two-time All-Star catcher Jonathan Lucroy has agreed to a one-year contract with the Oakland Athletics, according to multiple reports. The deal is expected to be formally announced once Lucroy passes a physical.

Lucroy reportedly turned down a three-year, $21 million offer from the Rockies in November, but there were initially no takers in the relatively quiet baseball free-agent market.

Lucroy, 31, split last season with the Texas Rangers and Rockies and batted .265 with six homers and 40 RBIs.

--Former MLB closer Koji Uehara, who won a championship in 2013 with the Boston Red Sox, has returned to Japan and signed with the Yomiuri Giants.

The 42-year-old agreed to a one-year deal with his former club.

Uehara spent last season, his ninth in MLB, with the Chicago Cubs. He finished the season with a 3-4 record and a 3.98 ERA.
