[March 10, 2018]  Jonathan C. Wright, Logan County State’s Attorney, presented a $500.00 donation to the Lincoln Police Department Safe Passages Program. Officer Christy Fruge, who administers the program, accepted the donation on behalf of the Lincoln Police Department.

As part of the prosecution of drug related offenses, the Logan County State’s Attorneys’ Office pursues forfeiture of currency and property that are affiliated with criminal drug activity. “Although drug forfeiture funds are traditionally used to assist this office in the prosecution of drug related crimes, I think it is important to use these funds to assist those who want help for their drug addiction,” stated Jonathan Wright. “If a person can get the treatment for their drug addiction, it will help them to heal and avoid contact with the criminal justice system,” continued Wright.

Safe Passages is a program through the Lincoln Police Department. The program provides that any Logan County resident entering the police station requesting help with their addiction to opiates will be screened for assistance and transportation to a drug treatment center. If such a person requesting assistance with their addiction is in possession of drugs or their drug paraphernalia, they will not be charged criminally and the items will be collected for proper disposal.

“I know this donation will help with the great work Officer Fruge is doing with Safe Passages. I also hope this donation will also draw attention to the program for anyone who has an opioid addiction and for anyone who has a loved one or friend who has an opioid addiction,” commented Wright.

For any questions or details about Safe Passages, please contact Officer Christy Fruge with the Lincoln Police Department.
