[March 12, 2018]  Patric Hornqvist and Jamie Oleksiak scored goals in the first period, and the Pittsburgh defense limited Dallas to just 18 shots as the Penguins outlasted the visiting Stars 3-1 on Sunday.

Pittsburgh recaptured first place in the Metropolitan Division with the win, which was its fourth in its past five matches.

Alexander Radulov scored a power-play goal for Dallas in the second period, but Pittsburgh sealed the win on Evgeni Malkin's empty-netter in the last minute.

Penguins goalie Casey DeSmith made 17 saves for the win, while Dallas' Kari Lehtonen stopped 27 shots.

Islanders 5, Flames 2

Christopher Gibson made 50 saves to earn his first NHL victory, and Johnny Boychuk led the offensive attack with a goal and two assists as visiting New York beat Calgary.

Anders Lee added two goals for the Islanders, who snapped an eight-game losing skid (0-4-4). Gibson, starting just his third game this season and fifth of his career, was under siege the final two periods but held strong enough.

With a pair of goals 28 seconds apart in the early going, the Islanders made it a horrible return for Flames goalie Mike Smith, who missed 13 games due to injury. Smith made 22 saves.

Blackhawks 3, Bruins 1

Patrick Kane scored the tiebreaking goal on the power play with 3:16 remaining in the third period, and host Chicago pulled away for a win over Boston.

Artem Anisimov and Brent Seabrook also scored for Chicago, which split its home-and-home weekend series against the Bruins. The Blackhawks snapped a two-game skid.

Zdeno Chara scored for the Bruins, whose six-game winning streak ended.

Coyotes 1, Canucks 0

Darcy Kuemper made 26 saves for his third shutout of the season as host Arizona blanked Vancouver.

The Coyotes improved to 10-3-2 in their past 15 games after beating the Canucks for the second time in less than a week. Vancouver has lost three straight and 14 of its past 18 games.

Arizona defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored the game's only goal, in the second period, and Kuemper held off the Canucks as they made a late charge in the closing moments.
