[March 27, 2018]  ATLANTA - Joseph E. Daugherty, 65, of Atlanta, passed away at 2:31 a.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.

Visitation: Monday, March 19, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta

Service: Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home

Obituary

Joseph E. Daugherty, 65, of Atlanta, passed away at 2:31 a.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.

Funeral services for Joe will be held on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta. Mr. Maurice Stribling will officiate.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 19, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joseph Eugene Daugherty was born June 22, 1952, in Lincoln, the son of Rethel and Elizabeth Gordon Daugherty. He married Helen M. Summers on July 3, 1971, at the Atlanta Christian Church in Atlanta. She survives.

He is also survived by their children: Kassi (Brandon) Compton of Atlanta and Martin (Charity) Daugherty of Lincoln; five grandchildren: Austin, Erin, Cayden, Wyatt, and Khloe; his mother: Elizabeth; one brother: Tom (Pat) Daugherty of Atlanta, and one sister: Rosemary Bishop of Atlanta.

Joe was preceded in death by his father and one sister: Alice Atchison.

Funeral Director

Joe was a graduate of Atlanta High School and attended Lincoln College in Lincoln. He served in the U.S. Army. He had worked for Hoblit Seed Company, was a supervisor for Union Camp, delivered mail for the USPS, ran his own business, and most recently was the Senior Insurance Compliance Advisor for Nau Company Insurance (a QBE Insurance Company).

Joe was a long-time member of the Atlanta Rescue Squad and served as Chief for many years. He belonged to the Atlanta Christian Church where he had served as Deacon. He was also a member of Atlanta American Legion Post #341.

Memorials may be made to the Atlanta Rescue Squad.

Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home of Atlanta.
