[May 05, 2018]  Sixth-seeded German Philipp Kohlschreiber upset second-seeded Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4, 6-4 at the BMW Open by FWU in Munich, Germany, on Friday.

Kohlschreiber, a three-time champion at the event (2007, 2012 and 2016), is into the semifinals at Munich for the sixth time in his career. The 34-year-old broke Bautista Agut three times in the match -- including in the seventh game of the second set to take a 4-3 lead -- and will next face compatriot Maximilian Marterer, who eliminated Hungarian Marton Fucsovics 6-3, 6-4.

No. 1 seed and defending champion Alexander Zverev cruised past fellow German Jan-Lennard Struff 6-3, 6-2 in 62 minutes to advance. In his semifinal, Zverev will face South Korean Hyeon Chung, who beat Slovakian qualifier Martin Klizan for the second straight year at Munich, 6-3, 6-4. Chung has beaten Zverev in each of their two previous meetings.

"I lost to Chung in Australia in a tough five-set match. I'm looking forward to this match," Zverev said. "I felt good on court today and I think he did as well. It will be an interesting match tomorrow."

Millennium Estoril Open

Home favorite Joao Sousa continued his reversal of fortunes at Estoril, Portugal, with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 upset of No. 3 seed Kyle Edmund of Great Britain.

Sousa began the week 0-3 at his home event. The 29-year-old upset eighth-seeded Russian Daniil Medvedev in his first match, battled past compatriot Pedro Sousa for a spot in the quarterfinals and rallied after a dreadful second set against Edmund to win all but seven points in the decisive third set.

Joao Sousa will next face an in-form Stefanos Tsitsipas after the 19-year-old Greek rallied to beat Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena 6-7 (2), 6-2, 7-6 (3) for his 11th win in his last 13 matches. Tsitsipas trailed 3-0 in his final-set tiebreaker against Carballes Baena before claiming the final seven points of the match to win in two hours, 36 minutes.

No. 2 seed and defending champion Pablo Carreno Busta received a scare before righting the ship in beating Chilean Nicolas Jarry 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 . The Spaniard will next face American Frances Tiafoe, who bested Italian qualifier Simone Bolelli 7-5, 6-2.

TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open

Serbian Laslo Djere and Tunisian Malek Jaziri eliminated the remaining seeded players at Istanbul, Turkey.

Djere, who advanced to the quarterfinals with a win over third-seeded Italian Andreas Seppi, battled past another Italian in No. 5 seed Paolo Lorenzi 6-7 (5), 7-5, 7-6 (3) to earn the second tour-level semifinal berth of his career. Meanwhile, Jaziri, fresh off an upset of top-seeded Croatian and defending champion Marin Cilic, beat seventh-seeded Czech Jiri Vesely 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 to move within a win of his first tour-level final. Djere and Jaziri will face off on Saturday.

"It was a really important win, as I didn't feel that I was playing good tennis," said Jaziri of his victory over Vesely. "I didn't feel good or comfortable right from the start. He served well and played good tennis, so I was making more mistakes. I tried to put more balls in court and competed for every point. I began to feel better and when I broke back at the end of the second set the match completely changed."

In the other semifinal, Frenchman Jeremy Chardy will match up with Japan's Taro Daniel. Chardy cruised past Italian Thomas Fabbiano 6-2, 6-2 while Daniel came back from 0-4 down in the decisive third set to beat Brazilian Rogerio Dutra Silva 1-6, 6-1, 6-4.
