Mount Pulaski Prom 2018 "From This Moment"

 

[May 07, 2018]  MOUNT PULASKI  - There was one thing that outshined the beautiful sunny skies on Saturday afternoon in Mount Pulaski: the gorgeous young people who graced the courthouse lawn as part of the 2018 Grand March. Year after year the dresses are beautiful, the tuxes are stunning and the smiles are infinite. This year was no exception. From this moment on the senior class of MPHS can remember this prom as one of the most beautiful days of 2018.

A huge crowd turned out in support of the students on the square and everyone was delighted in the variety of prom dresses and tuxes to match. Picture taking was abundant on this busy day. Families had graduations and track meets to fit into the hectic schedule but it all seemed to work out.

Except for one man who couldn't be two places at once. The one familiar voice missing from this year's prom was that of Greg Taylor. Taylor missed his son Peyton's senior prom only because daughter Jordan was graduating from college in Tennessee. Taylor's voice as the master of ceremonies was admittedly missed, but his substitute did a nice job.

After the couples were introduced and made their way down the courthouse steps late Saturday afternoon, eight members of the senior class gathered to walk the steps again as part of the 2018 Prom Court. Those couples were: Bayley Holmes and Corey Beccue, Abbey Phillips and Ayden Rule, Fikirte Mott and Seth Huff and Emily Wakeman and Peyton Taylor.

Ayden Rule and Abbey Phillips were crowned King and Queen of the 2018 Prom in front of the crowd by last year's queen, Kaity Jason.

As always, following the Grand March the kids flee the town square and head off to dinner. After dinner the prom goers meet back at the American Legion Home in Mount Pulaski for a dance with a DJ and cake and punch for dessert.

This year's prom theme was "From This Moment" and as Callie Anderson explained the students voted on four themes and this one was the winner. "From This Moment" won because our prom revolved around polaroids," said Anderson. "So we kind of thought that the theme about moments in time would correlate to the polaroids."

A tree filled with recent polaroids of the kids graced a table at the Legion.

After the dance ended the kids had a chance to go home, change and meet back at the high school for pizza and snacks as the 30th year of Post-prom kicked off.

This year's post-prom was a little bit different with kids boarding charter buses to travel to Springfield to SkyZone for a late night/early morning of fun. Games and more snacks were all a part of the SkyZone festivities. After a few hours, the kids were brought back to the high school for more fun.

A hilarious hypnotist from Australia was to be the entertainment back at the high school, according to one of the post-prom coordinators, Julie Hinds. The kids were then treated to breakfast and prizes before being released to go home at 6 a.m. Rides were also offered to the kids if they were too tired to drive home.

By all accounts, the evening was awesome and kids had a great time. Nearly 100 kids took part in post-prom activities and like always the post-prom committee makes sure everyone goes home with a prize.
