[May 09, 2018]    The Charlotte Hornets reportedly are finalizing a deal with San Antonio Spurs assistant coach James Borrego to make him their new head coach.

Borrego reportedly met with Hornets owner Michael Jordan over the weekend after being a finalist for the job with Boston Celtics assistant Jay Larranaga. Borrego made a strong impression on Hornets general manager Mitch Kupchak, according to ESPN.

Borrego, 40, has been with the Spurs for the past three seasons after a previous stint in San Antonio from 2003-10. He also spent two seasons as an assistant with the then-New Orleans Hornets (2010-12) and three with the Orlando Magic (2012-15).

He served as Orlando's interim head coach after Jacque Vaughn was fired during the 2014-15 campaign, going 10-20 for a team that finished 25-57 overall. The Hornets have finished 36-46 and missed the playoffs in consecutive seasons, prompting the firing of head coach Steve Clifford last month after five years with the team.

--Cleveland Cavaliers guard Rodney Hood will not be suspended for refusing to enter Game 4 in the fourth quarter.

Yahoo Sports reported Tuesday that Hood was scheduled to meet with coach Tyronn Lue to discuss his decision to turn down playing time in the fourth quarter of Cleveland's series-clinching win at home on Monday night. During a timeout, several players surrounded Hood to encourage him to enter the game, but he refused.

ESPN reported Tuesday afternoon that Hood already apologized to teammates and "feels awful" for the incident. Lue reportedly did not view the refusal to play as an act of defiance.

--The Minnesota Timberwolves accepted the resignation of assistant coach Rick Brunson.

Brunson was facing allegations of misconduct toward several women while on the job, according to a report from The Athletic.

Brunson, 45, has been a member of the Timberwolves' coaching staff the past two seasons. He also previously worked under head coach Tom Thibodeau with the Chicago Bulls.
