Mount Pulaski Hilltoppers end regular season with a 14-4 loss to Warrensburg-Latham

[May 12, 2018]  The Hilltoppers regular season came to an end on Friday as the Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals took advantage of five Mount Pulaski errors and walked away with a 14-4 win. The Cardinals offense slugged 17 hits against Mount Pulaski pitching.

The Hilltoppers took a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning but it was all downhill from there. Warrensburg took a 5-4 lead in the fourth inning and things only got worse as the game went on. By the time the bottom of the fifth inning was over, the Cardinals were ahead 7-4. A seven-run sixth inning chased the Hilltoppers back to the bus early on the final game of the regular season.

Grant Davis, Todd Kelly and Ben Fricke all led the offense for Mount Pulaski. Davis was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Kelly was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Fricke was 2-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored.

Drew Martin slugged an RBI double for Mount Pulaski.

On the mound Tanner Farris took the loss. He pitched five innings, giving up 11 hits and 5 earned runs. Farris struck out 7 batters.

Brandon Kretzinger pitched in relief and gave up 6 hits and 5 earned runs.

The Toppers end the regular season with an 11-12 record.

Mount Pulaski will play at Decatur St. Teresa on Thursday, May 17, 2018 in regionals. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. If the Hilltoppers win they will advance to the regional championship on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
