Rantoul rallies to defeat Lady Railers softball 6-4

[May 19, 2018]    Thursday's game against Rantoul was a heartbreaker for the Lady Railers, as they lost the lead late and ended up losing 6-4.

Lincoln led 1-0 in the first inning on an RBI groundout by Kerstin Osborne. The Lady Railers scored three times in the second inning as Bayleigh Gillum, Ryleigh Lamb and Macailey Metelko all drove in runs. Lincoln took a 4-0 lead into the third inning and then Rantoul began to slowly chip away at that lead.

Heading into the sixth inning Lincoln was still in control with a 4-2 lead. But a four-run sixth inning by Rantoul would be the dagger in the hearts of Lincoln.

Osborne took the loss for Lincoln. She tossed six innings, allowing six runs on eight hits, striking out seven and walking one.

Lindsey Jordahl earned the win for Rantoul. She surrendered four runs on four hits over seven innings. She struck out 12 batters and did not issue a single walk.

Gillum led Lincoln's offense with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.

Watching the lead slip away, Coach Darrin Worth said after the game, "This was a really tough loss to swallow. We were up 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Rantoul scored four runs in the sixth inning with a bad call to start the inning and we had two errors in that inning."

The Lady Railers will play Lanphier on Monday in the first game of regionals in Lincoln at 4:30 p.m.
