LINCOLN

On Thursday, May 10, Lincolnland Technical Education Center held an open house at a new home on 1702 Pekin Street in Lincoln. The house was constructed by this year's Building Trades classes.

The home, which is on a corner lot, offers an open concept living space along with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a two-car garage, and outside storage building.

LTEC Director Matt Puckett said the building trades students did an outstanding job and have a great partnership with LTEC and Lincoln Community High School.

Puckett said LTEC has been given three lots and three houses will be built over the next six years. This one is the first of the three houses.

Puckett said LTEC will partner next year with Habitat for Humanity and "we share resources [with Habitat], provide manpower, and give the kids experience in building." He said the more affordable housing we can build for Lincoln, the better.

Puckett said 26 students are signed up for the building trades program next year and "we are lucky to have a great teacher showing them how to build a house. Very few instructors in the state can actually build a house. "

LTEC Building Trades Instructor Justin Dietrich said the house available today is "One of my personal favorites we have done, and the cathedral ceiling and open concept make it feel bigger than 1,200 square feet."

Dietrich said the bedrooms are not huge, but still efficient and the master bedroom has a large walk-in closet.

Olga Harris, one of the students involved in building the house, said, "We had fun working together. It was a good experience and we learned a lot."
Now that the work has been completed, the house is for sale by 'sealed bid.

If you are interested in making an offer, please submit your sealed bid to the Lincoln Community High School District Office, attention Robert Bagby, Superintendent.

All sealed bids must meet the minimum reserve of $96,000. The sealed bids will be opened at 8 a.m. on May 20th with the highest bidder offered the home.
