Congratulations to Lincoln Junior High School Track and Field State athletes

Lincoln Daily News is pleased to congratulate the athletes of LJHS who participated in the 2018 Class AA Track and Field State Meet in East Peoria over the weekend.


Riley Tungate gives the two thumbs up for her 2nd place finish in the long jump in the IESA Class AA State Track and Field Meet.

Riley Tungate, seventh grader at LJHS, finished in the 2018 Class AA Track and Field State Meet as the runner-up in the Long Jump. Tungate jumped 16 feet 10 inches and earned a spot on the podium second to only Ann Wirth of Geneseo Middle School. Wirth jumped 17 feet 2 inches to earn the state championship.

Riley, Ryen, Ava and Adrian hold the Trojan banner at State getting ready for the parade of athletes.

Coach Anthony Varnado also provided the following information about the participation of all the state qualifiers:

Aidan Gowin got ninth overall in the seventh grade boys Long Jump with a jump of 17 feet 7 inches. He ran a time of 58.05 in the seventh grade boys 400m Dash.

Ava Gorens best jump at State for the eighth grade girls Long Jump was 14 feet 9 inches; 22nd overall.

Ryen Stoltzenburg best throw in the eighth grade girls Discus was 84 feet 7 inches; overall ranking 17th.

Congratulations to Riley, Aiden, Ava and Ryen on a terrific track and field season!
