[May 24, 2018]  Heartland Community College will formally open a new, expanded Lincoln Center on May 31 with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 2201 Woodlawn, Rd. in Lincoln.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m., followed by an Open House for the public to tour the 5,830 square foot facility.

Heartland leadership is enthusiastic about the investment in the new facility and are looking toward the dividends an expanded Lincoln Center will provide for Logan County.

“This is an exciting step in our efforts to serve the needs in the southern part of our district,” said Heartland President Rob Widmer. “By expanding programs focused on specific student and community needs, we’re likely to see increased enrollment, greater student completion and generally enhanced engagement with Lincoln and Logan County constituents.”

The new facility will replace the current location in downtown Lincoln and will allow the College to grow programing that includes certified nursing assistant (CNA), agriculture, continuing education and adult education.

“We’ve met and talked with a lot of community leaders and organizations in the area,” said Kristi Powell, associate director of the Heartland Lincoln Center. “With the expansion of St. Clara’s Manor and an aging population, there is a high demand for CNAs. Plus, several businesses in Logan County are ag-based. As a community resource, we need to ensure we’re meeting employer needs.”

In addition to program growth, the new facility will create better classroom and lab space and increase accommodations for parking.

While investing in a new location, Heartland remains committed to resource stewardship and fiscal responsibility. The lease rate for the new space is comparable to rates the College is currently paying per square foot. Heartland is securing donor support to help provide new equipment necessary for expanded programming.
