Donald E. "Gene" Hawkins

[May 25, 2018]  MCLEAN - Donald E. "Gene" Hawkins, 96, of Bloomington, formerly of McLean, passed away at 9:25 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2018, at Aperion Care Center in Bloomington.

Visitation: 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service on Tuesday.

Service: Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta.

Obituary

Donald E. "Gene" Hawkins, 96, of Bloomington, formerly of McLean, passed away at 9:25 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2018, at Aperion Care Center in Bloomington.

Funeral services for Mr. Hawkins will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta. Rev. Bill Ramsdale will officiate. Burial will follow at McLean Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service on Tuesday.

Donald Eugene Hawkins was born July 9, 1921, in LeRoy, the son of Horace G. and Ruth E. Pray Hawkins. He married Lala Lucille Young in Waynesville on Oct. 26, 1941. She preceded him in death.

Gene is survived by their children: Steve (Janice) Hawkins of Bloomington, Randa (Edward) Stanek of Normal, and Donna (Bill) Worth of McLean; seven grandchildren: Sherry Orgler, Chad Hawkins, Melissa Bailey, Carrie DeLong, Kellie Atkins, Kacie Ferrara, and Talon Ferrara; and nine great-grandchildren.

Gene was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers, and one sister.

Gene was a self-employed farmer, welder, and mechanic around the McLean area for many, many years. He was a member of the McLean United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home of Atlanta.
