[May 26, 2018]    Scott McCarron emerged from a historic first-round, six-way tie atop the leaderboard at the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship to finish Friday's second round in a tie for first with Kevin Sutherland at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor, Mich.

McCarron entered the day sharing first place with Wes Short Jr., Stuart Smith, Tim Petrovic, Barry Lane and Australia's Peter Lonard at 5-under 66. McCarron fired a 3-under 68 Friday to break away from the group, but Sutherland birdied four of his last five holes to rise up the leaderboard with a 5-under 66, matching McCarron at 8-under 134 entering the weekend.

Aside from Petrovic, who is among four tied for third one stroke back of the leaders, the rest of the group to begin Friday in first has fallen off pace. Lane and Lonard are in a five-man group tied for 10th at 5 under, Short is among 15 tied for 19th at 3 under and Smith didn't make the 1-over cut after a second round 83, tying the high of the day.

McCarron is looking to continue his strong play in Champions major events. This is the ninth time in 12 major starts that McCarron will enter the weekend in the top 10, including a victory last year in the Senior Players Championship.

Sutherland, the 2017 Charles Schwab Cup champion, has three top-10 finishes this season. His best mark was a tie for eighth at the Mitsubishi Electric Classic.
