Lincoln College Adds Two New Majors for Fall 2018
Liberal Arts and Organizational Leadership Degrees Offered at Lincoln Campus

Lincoln College has added two new bachelor’s degree options to its growing list of four-year degree majors at the Lincoln campus.

Beginning in the fall, students will now be offered majors in Organizational Leadership and in Liberal Arts, in addition to the 10 majors already available in Lincoln.

“As part of our ongoing effort to return to our roots as a four-year degree granting university, I am very pleased to announce that Lincoln College will be bringing two new bachelor’s degree options to our Lincoln campus,” Lincoln College President David Gerlach said.

Gerlach explained that both degrees have been offered at the College’s Normal campus through its Accelerated Bridge to Education (ABE) program for nontraditional students, but will now be offered to traditional four-year students on the Lincoln campus as well.

Lincoln College will continue to offer both degrees through its ABE program as well.

With the additional degree offerings, students on the Lincoln campus will be able to pursue bachelor’s degrees in:

• Business Management;
• Community and Human Services;
• Conservation Biology;
• Contemporary Jazz Studies;
• Criminal Justice;
• Exercise Science;
• Liberal Arts;
• Organizational Leadership;
• Radio, Television and New Media;
• Sport Management;
• Theatre; and
• Vocal Performance

“Both of these degrees have been very popular in our ABE program and we saw that we could help meet the demand for these programs by offering them to traditional students at the Lincoln campus as well,” Gerlach explained. “The nice thing about both of these programs is that they prepare students for careers in a broad range of fields, which will complement some of our more specialized degrees and give incoming students a good mix to choose from.”

Students in the Liberal Arts degree program will take a core curriculum consisting of nine credit hours each in communications, humanities and social sciences, coupled with six credit hours each in the areas of critical reasoning and analytical methods and science, technology and environment. They will also complete six hours of senior coursework, including a capstone seminar and either a senior research project or a senior internship.

Students majoring in organizational leadership will take 12 hours of foundation courses focused on management, psychology and minority relations; followed by 24 hours of courses in such topics as human resources management, professional writing, values and choices, persuasion, critical thinking, economics, and contemporary philosophy and politics.

They will also take 21 hours of courses in leadership, conflict management, workforce diversity, organizational behavior, organizational leadership and organizational development.

Their studies will culminate in three credit hours studying advanced leadership philosophy and practice.
