On Thursday morning several were in attendance for the first day of business at the new Gordmans store on the city's west side. The store, located in the former Goody’s building, opened on Wednesday but on Thursday held a ribbon cutting to kick off the Grand Opening weekend for the store.

During the ribbon cutting Lincoln Mayor Seth Goodman was among the speakers to welcome the store to Lincoln.

The highlight of the ribbon cutting was the presentation of a check for $2,500 to Lincoln Community High School. The check was accepted by Principal Todd Poelker accompanied by staff that work with the Freshman Academy program at the school.

Poelker explained that the Freshman academy is a program for at risk students that works with the kids on an more personal basis to help them work through the issues that are keeping them from concentrating on getting an education. Many of these students are like those who in the past might leave school all together, and the goal of the program is to bring them back to school and offer them the support they need to remain in school through counseling and personalized education.

When the ribbon was cut, shoppers were invited into the new store for opening day. Each of the first 100 to enter received an insulated shopping bag with a ‘scavenger hunt' tucked inside. The hunt consisted of a list of questions, the answers of which could be found in the store. Those who completed the quiz were given a $5 gift card for Gordmans.

The store has a nice fresh look and lots of interesting items to shop. Of course, with a November first opening, Christmas was prevalent in the entry way of the store with lots of decorative as well as gift items including games and toys, and cosmetic gift sets, along with many other lovely items.

The clothing departments in the store are large and very well stocked and the store carries a variety of sizes to fit any shape.

There are interesting household items such as an entire endcap of flavor syrups for coffee, some that are even sugar free for those who love the flavor but not the calories of the popular coffee house brews.

The store offers a nice shoe department and a great selection of household items.

The isles are wide and easy to shop and guests in the store appeared to enjoy the experience.

As the holiday season is upon us, this store could be a great place to visit for the extra touches you need for your holiday décor, your Thanksgiving dinner table, or the hard to buy for people on your shopping list.

The grand opening celebration for the store will continue through the weekend with the first 100 people each day receiving a gift. Be sure to check it out, even if you’re not ready to start that Christmas shopping just yet, you can get a good idea of what is now being offered right here in Lincoln, and again we remind everyone that our local businesses can’t stay in business without us, so please, whenever possible, shop local.
