Lincoln College Athletic Director Mark Perdue announced today that Lincoln College will add men’s and women’s bowling as a team sport for students entering for the 2019-20 academic year.

Recruitment for the 2019 team will begin immediately.

"Lincoln Athletics is excited to add men’s and women’s bowling to our intercollegiate sports offerings" said Perdue. "Bowling is a rising sport in the NAIA and has become very popular among high schools as an IHSA-sponsored sport, so we felt it was a good fit for our department and school.”

Perdue has named Candace Van Bogaert to be the school’s first bowling coach. Van Bogaert will guide both the men’s and women’s programs.

Perdue is enthusiastic about the hire. “Candace is a graduate of Lincoln College, where she was a dual sport athlete playing volleyball and basketball. I am excited to be bringing her on board as a head coach,” he said.

Van Bogaert says she has been an avid bowler for 20 plus years, explaining, “I’ve been bowling since I was eight, and coaching is a passion of mine. I am looking forward to the opportunities that coaching here will bring.”

"Providing additional opportunities for student-athletes is important to us," said Dr. David Gerlach, President, Lincoln College. "We believe as a new member of the NAIA, the addition of sports such as bowling enhances our institution and provides a wonderful opportunity for students to earn their degree while playing a sport they love.”

According to Athletic Director Perdue, athletic scholarships will be offered for both men’s and women’s bowling teams for the 2019-20 year. Potential student-athletes interested in the new bowling program or any other sports at Lincoln College can learn more by visiting the school’s athletic website at www.lincolnlynxsports.com where they can submit a recruitment form.

Lincoln College is in its first full year of membership in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and competes in the Association of Independent Institutions Conference (AII). This year Lincoln College has more than 300 student-athletes participating in 17 sports. The addition of men’s and women’s bowling brings the number of athletic opportunities offered by LC to 19 sports.
