[November 06, 2018]    CC Sabathia has been a member of the Yankees since 2009, and J.A. Happ didn't arrive in the Bronx until late July, but New York general manager Brian Cashman says he's interested in having both veteran pitchers back next season.

As Major League Baseball's general managers meetings began Monday in Carlsbad, Calif., Cashman said he has been in touch with representatives for both left-handers.

The Yankees will be looking to bolster their starting rotation, which will return right-handers Luis Severino and Masahiro Tanaka, who combined to win 31 games last season.

Whether it means the trade market or signing free agents, Cashman said the Yankees would "gravitate to anything that will make sense. It could be a combination; something could make sense via trade in the same category as free agency."

The 36-year-old Happ, who began the season with the Toronto Blue Jays before the trade to New York, went 17-6 overall with a 3.65 ERA and made the All-Star team. With the Yankees, he went 7-0 with a 2.69 ERA.

Sabathia, 38, went 9-7 with a 3.65 ERA in 29 starts. He won the AL Cy Young Award with the Cleveland Indians in 2007, and he has been an All-Star six times, the latest in 2012.
