The event began at 4 p.m. with a ribbon cutting
			ceremony.
On hand for the cut were several members of Lincoln city government
including Mayor Seth Goodman, Aldermen Michelle Bauer and Tracy
Welch, City Treasurer Chuck Conzo and City Clerk Peggy Bateman. Two
members of Logan County Royalty were on hand, 2018 Logan County Fair
Queen Molly Schempp and Little Miss Logan County Kylee Fulk. Also
attending the cut were Morgan Gleason and Kaylee Kirby with the
Logan County Tourism Bureau and former Lincoln/Logan County Chamber
Ambassador members Marcia Cook and Deron and Kristi Powell.

Others attending included Melody Shew and Angela Getchel. Melody is
the former owner of MKS Jewelers and her daughter Angela worked
beside her for many years at the store and is now a member of the
staff in the City Clerk’s Office.

Along with the people named there were several other friends, family
members and other downtown business owners on hand to join in the
			celebration.

Before snipping the ribbon Lisa Drew spoke about this
move that Sorrento’s has made, saying it is the last move for the
family owned restaurant. She recounted the 49-year history of the
restaurant including their move 15 years ago to the much smaller
location just a few doors to the west.
Drew said that she, her husband Jim, and the family and staff were
content where they had been, and really had no intention of moving
again, until they learned that Shew was retiring and that MKS would
be closing. When the popular jewelry store closed, Drew said it
opened a door for Sorrento’s to make one last move.

Of course, it took a lot of effort to transform the
business from MKS to something representative of an authentic
Italian restaurant. Drew spoke about the tremendous effort in the
remodel and named each person and business that had been involved in
making that transition work out so beautifully.
She noted that she has incredible family members who are a big part
of the restaurant as well as a wonderful staff that she truly
			appreciates.

Drew also made mention of the family history in the
restaurant saying that Sorrento’s represented four generations of
			her family.
When Drew was finished speaking, Lincoln Mayor also took just a
moment to congratulate the Drew’s on their new location and made
mention that he was also thankful for their pizza, his favorite.

When the ribbon was snipped, guests were invited to enjoy an array
of desserts including Tiramisu - a traditional Italian dessert,
cheese cake bites and a large selection of cookies.

On Friday evening, 10 percent of all receipts for the night was
donated to the Lincoln Area YMCA. On Saturday evening there will be
live entertainment from 7:30 p.m. to closing time at 10 p.m. by
musician Kyle Yap. At the counter a large bowl was set out with a
sign that said 'Win pizza for a year.'

Lisa Drew said there would be other gifts and prizes given out
			during the two night event.

If you didn’t make it out to Sorrento’s on Friday night, perhaps you
could put it on your list for this evening. Go and enjoy a pizza or
something else from their amazing menu, enjoy some music and
congratulate the Drews' on their beautiful new space.
