[October 02, 2018]    Former Alabama head coach Mike DuBose was hospitalized Monday after accidentally shooting himself in the stomach, according to multiple reports.

Per multiple media outlets, the Covington County (Ala.) Sheriff's Office said the injury was not life-threatening.

DuBose was reportedly working on his farm in the southern Alabama town of Opp when the incident occurred. He drove himself to a local hospital and was later airlifted about an hour away to a medical facility in Dothan.

DuBose, 65, went 24-23 in four seasons (1997-2000) as Alabama's coach. He was SEC Coach of the Year in 1999 when the Crimson Tide went 10-3 and won the league title.

However, the Crimson Tide went just 3-8 the following season and DuBose was fired after being involved in an inappropriate relationship with his secretary. DuBose initially denied there was a relationship, and the university later settled the woman's sexual harassment claim for $360,000.

The program later went on NCAA probation for five years, including a two-year bowl ban, for recruiting violations that occurred on his watch.

DuBose was a defensive lineman at Alabama from 1972-74 under Paul "Bear" Bryant.
