LINCOLN
- On October 5, at approximately 3:23 pm, Atlanta Police
Department and Logan County Sheriff’s Office units were requested to
assist the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office in locating a suspect
involved in the theft of several vehicles. At approximately 4:42,
Logan County Deputies made contact with the suspect who was driving
a vehicle determined to be stolen from Sangamon County. Deputies
attempted to initiate a traffic stop on that vehicle at which time
the suspect fled resulting in law enforcement engaging in a pursuit
of the suspect.
The suspect eventually crashed his vehicle in the 1600 block of 900
Street and fled the scene. Multiple law enforcement agencies were
involved in the tracking of the suspect to include, Logan County
Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, and the Lincoln Police
Department. The suspect, who was described as a light skinned, black
male wearing a blue shirt, evaded capture in the heavily wooded
area. A Nixle alert was issued to area residents describing the
suspect and advising them to remain vigilant, secure their homes,
and report any suspicious activity.
Law enforcement continued their search through the night following
up on several citizens’ tips involving possible sightings of the
suspect.
