Today we feature photos of folks dressed in pink from around the county. Staff from the Chestnut Bank, members of the Elkhart Public Library, staff from Gail’s Pumpkin Patch near Beason; and the site manager at the Mount Pulaski Courthouse, Barbara Stroud-Borth, all posed for a picture for Paint the Paper Pink. This drives home the point that breast cancer is not just a concern in isolated areas, it is everywhere. This year in Illinois more than 9,900 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. This is the highest incident rating of all cancer types. The good news is that the number one ranking does not carry through to mortality rates. More people are surviving breast cancer every day due in no small part to cancer research and work funded by the American Cancer Society.

Fifth grade students from Northwest School in Lincoln gathered for a picture in front of the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago on Thursday, October 4th. The group was just a portion of the fifth graders from across the county who were able to visit the museum thanks to funding from the Woods Foundation. Other schools participating included all Lincoln Elementary District #27, Chester-East Lincoln, Carroll Catholic, Hartsburg-Emden, Mount Pulaski, New Holland-Middletown, Olympia South Elementary, West Lincoln-Broadwell, and both Lincoln and Mount Pulaski Zion Lutheran schools.
