To the editor:

I endorse electing Junius Rodriguez for 18th Congressional District on 11.6.18. Dr. Rodriguez is a history professor at Eureka College. He's very learned in national and international issues. As they say if we don't know our history, we are destined to repeat it. He will bring his knowledge to Congress. Rodriguez has come to Lincoln several times to talk about his views on important issues.

He wants to protect healthcare for all. A nation as wealthy as our beloved country should never allow people to suffer ill health without insurance to cover their medical costs. It is the pharmaceutical and insurance corporations that fight to keep people ineligible for insurance. Junius will fight in Congress to make sure everybody has healthcare coverage.

Our farmers are now suffering under the newly imposed tariffs against their harvest. The current offer of a presidential bail-out will only cover 1% of farmers' loss of income. Our farm markets to China have abruptly stopped due to tariffs. Tariffs with China are also costing each of us with higher costs of new cars, groceries, clothing, appliances, even toys for Christmas. The so-called tax cuts may show a nominal increase in a paycheck but the increasing costs of daily living will counter balance any increase in salary.

[to top of second column]

Junius Rodriguez will stand for our Illinois farmers and find open markets for their crops. Farmers feed the world and need to find good markets that will pay them justly for their product. He will fight for fair tax cuts for middle class families. The present faux tax cut really benefits the top tier of 1% of our population who make millions and billions.

Junius Rodriguez will work for good paying jobs. So many people are needing to work 2-3 low paying jobs to make ends meet. Yes, employment rates may say it's lower than ever but these are not decent paying jobs. We need good manufacturing jobs with benefits. The middle class used to be able to buy a home, buy a new car, live a middle class lifestyle, put their kids in college, take a vacation. But not anymore. Families are living paycheck to paycheck. Rodriguez wants better jobs for all of us.

Vote 11.6.18. Vote for Junius Rodriguez for 18th Congressional District.
