[October 30, 2018]    The Lincoln College Men’s Basketball team came out on top of their first game as a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Lincoln needed a strong second half effort to seal the victory against the visiting St. Xavier University Cougars.

St. Xavier took a 37-32 lead into halftime, but LC was able to regroup and outscore the Cougars 50 to 36 in the second half to claim an 82-73 victory.

The Lynx had four players reach double-digits point totals in the game. Guards Trayvon Tyler (Rockford) and Darnell Latham Jr. (Chicago) each scored 20 points while senior forward JJ Turner had 12 and senior forward Julian Powell (Baytown, TX) had 10. Powell also led LC in rebounds with 11 to record the team’s first double-double of the season. Tyler led the team in assists with five.

Lincoln Head Coach Pat Lepper was pleased with his team’s effort. “We came out with a high level of intensity in the second half and did a better job of taking care of the ball,” he said. “Our offense was rough in the first half, but once our guys settled down and started working together, we played at a much higher level.”

The Lynx (1-0) will look to pick up another win at home this week when they host William Penn University on Wednesday, October 31st at 7:30 PM.
