[October 30, 2018]    The Lincoln College Women’s Basketball hosted the Trinity Christian College Trolls on Saturday to open up the 2018-2019 season.

Trinity came out strong in the first quarter and controlled the pace of play to go up 21-8. Lincoln picked up their game in the second quarter and was able to stay with the Trolls, but still went into the halftime break down by 14 at 45-31.

Trinity turned up the heat on LC in the third quarter to outscore them 31 to 15 and take a commanding lead. LC was unable to recover and eventually settled for a 93-67 defeat.

Sophomore forward Kaleia Monteiro (Rockford) led Lincoln with 21 rebounds and 15 points. Nautica Preston, a junior guard from Chicago, Illinois, led all scorers with 23 points in the game. Preston also added two assists.

LC Coach DeRonte Polite sees the loss in his team’s first game as a varsity program as a learning experience for his squad. “We did not have a good showing today,” said Polite. “I know we are better than what we displayed. We will continue to work hard and seek to have a better showing on Wednesday.”

Polite added, “There were a few bright spots, so we will look to build on those as we prepare for William Woods University.”

Lincoln will travel to face William Woods University on October 31st at 7:00 PM.
