[September 04, 2018]    The Los Angeles Lakers cleared some extra salary cap room for next season by agreeing to a buyout with veteran forward Luol Deng, according to multiple reports.

The move should leave the Lakers with more than $35 million next summer, clearing the path for another max player to join LeBron James in Los Angeles.

Deng originally signed a four-year, $72 million deal with the Lakers in 2016, but played in only one game last season. He played in 56 games, with 49 starts, in his first year with the Lakers.

The 33-year-old had two years and $36 million remaining on his contract.

Deng has averaged 15.0 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game over his 14-year career. He'll be a free agent once the buyout is complete.
