Mammogram Mondays begin in October
Area health organizations partner to provide free mammograms in Lincoln

[September 24, 2018]  Area health organizations have added two new locations to their list of sites offering free mammograms in October: Taylorville and Hillsboro. Women who are uninsured or under-insured can receive a free mammogram each Monday in October. The program will be offered again at two Springfield locations and in Lincoln.

Thanks to a $20,651 grant from the Memorial Affiliate of Susan G. Komen, the Regional Cancer Partnership of Illinois (RCPIL) is able to fund the program for women ages 40 and older. Over the last four years, nearly 400 women have benefited from this annual grant.

"We are very glad to expand the program to Christian and Montgomery counties this year. Early detection of breast cancer is the key to beating the disease,” said Diana Weyhenmeyer, RCPIL chair. “Screening and education are critically important factors for women of all ages and the foundation to continued health.”

Appointments are required. No walk-ins are available at any location. Times and locations for Mammogram Mondays in October (October 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29) include:

Educational materials, including information on general breast health and how to perform breast self-exams, will also be available at each location.

The National Cancer Institute recommends that women age 40 or older have screening mammograms every one to two years. Screening mammograms are for patients who do not have symptoms or who have not detected any abnormalities.
