[April 02, 2019]  LINCOLN - A new “work ready” program is set to begin at Heartland Community College’s new Lincoln Center facility.

This summer Lincoln Center will offer the 16-week Pharmacy Technician course. Students who complete this course will be fully prepared to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) and then enter the work force in a hospital, clinic or retail setting.

Pharmacy technicians serve as a vital link between medical professionals, pharmacists, and patients. Their primary tasks include receiving and verifying prescriptions and preparing a patient’s medication.

“The Pharmacy Technician course helps address the healthcare support needs of the area,” said Kristi Powell, Associate Director of Heartland Lincoln Center. “Development of new programs like this one will provide opportunities for students who are looking to move into a career path in a relatively short period of time.”

Health care support occupations are one of the fastest growing job markets in the United States. The Bureau of Labor Statistics has projected a need of 1,654 regional Pharmacy Technician jobs in the area by 2024.

The Pharmacy Technician course begins June 10 at Heartland Lincoln Center. For more information go to www.heartland. edu/destinations or call 309-268-8160.
