Blades Hair and Nail Salon celebrates 15 years with a ribbon cut and day of special events

[March 30, 2019]  On Friday, April 5th, Vanessa Komnick will celebrate a milestone anniversary as the owner/operator of Blades Hair and Nail Salon in Lincoln. Komnick purchased the blades business 15 years ago and moved it from its location on Fifth Street to 241 Madigan Drive in Lincoln, where she has enjoyed much success.

To commemorate Blade’s anniversary, Komnick invites everyone to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony at 12:30 p.m. on Friday and also to be a part of a special fundraiser that is going on later in the afternoon.

Komnick and about a half-dozen other folks from the Lincoln area are going to be participating in a St. Jude’s run to Peoria.

In past years the runs have started right here in Lincoln and ended in Peoria. This year however, the seven runners are taking on a mammoth challenge, running from Memphis, Tennessee to Peoria. Komnick said the week of the run the group will leave Peoria by bus on Tuesday, will go to Memphis and begin their run on Wednesday. The runners will then reach their destination in Peoria on Saturday.

In order to participate in the run, each member of the team needs to raise $3,000. As part of the fundraising effort, Blades will host a “Polish for a purpose” fundraiser from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. where guests may get their nails done with proceeds going toward the fundraiser. This is a great opportunity to do a little self-pampering and support a very worthy cause at the same time.

For those who may not be familiar with Blades, the shop on Madigan Drive features eight hair stations with six stylists. There are four manicure/pedicure chairs where guests can sit back in a nice, soft recliner like seat and allow themselves some time to relax as the staff of Blades take care of them.

Komnick said that she has two veteran stylists that have both been with her seven years. The first one she mentioned was Aubrey Litterle. She mentioned that Aubrey not only does a great job with hair, she is really into the nail art and does an excellent job for her clients.

Her second veteran stylist is Lindsay Tibbs, another very talented stylist. In addition to being stylists, both Litterle and Tibbs are educators. Komnick noted that education on new trends, new products, and seasonal styles are very important. Blades offers education to others concerning products and services, and also have two ‘associates’ in the shop who are learning as they work.

Komnick said that the salon is a one stop shop for personal care offering a huge variety of products and services. In addition to doing fantastic cuts, colors, and styles, the shop offers facials and skin care, air brush tanning, eyelash extensions and hair extensions.

They also offer a “sun lighten infrared sauna bed.” This is an amazing service that Komnick said is basically a detox for the body. She said the benefits of this type of sauna are external and internal, noting that the bed is known to help improve circulation and lower blood pressure.

In addition to all this, in the last year the shop has created a retail boutique for women and girls that features clothing, shoes, and accessories. Komnick said that it had long been something she was interested in and she and one of her staff had talked about providing a unique offering of clothing and accessories that one just won’t find in Lincoln.

Komnick said on Friday, April 5th, it will be business as usual at the shop, but with a twist. Come on out for the ribbon cut, enjoy some nice refreshments, take a chance at the spinning wheel to earn great discounts on products and services as well as some free items.
