The 87 players in the field ties the fewest since 1997. Conners was the last player to qualify with his victory on Sunday. ... Only the top 50 and ties, and players within 10 strokes of the lead, will make the 36-hole cut. ... The highest ranked former Masters champion in the field is No. 12 Tiger Woods (four-time winner). He has opened with a sub-70 opening round just once in 21 appearances. ... Third-ranked Rory McIlroy is attempting to become the sixth player to win the career grand slam (Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Woods), and the first to win the Masters and The Players Championship in the same season since 2001. ... Jordan Spieth does not have a top 10 finish since last year's Open Championship, but he has also not finished worse than T11 in five previous Masters appearances. ... Reed is attempting to become only the fourth Masters champion to successfully defend his title, joining Jack Nicklaus (1965, 1966), Nick Faldo (1989, 1990) and Woods (2001, 2002) . ... All 50 of the top-ranked players in the world are in the field. ... World No. 1 Justin Rose has not missed a cut in 13 starts at the Masters.
