Hilltoppers shutout Cerro Gordo 10-0 with Martin and Kelly on the
mound

The pitching was outstanding Tuesday afternoon with Drew Martin and
Todd Kelly on the mound for Mount Pulaski at Bob Gasaway Field.
Martin started the game versus Cerro Gordo and got the 10-0 win for
the Hilltoppers. Martin tossed three innings of no-hit ball and
struck out eight batters along the way. Todd Kelly pitched the last
two innings for Mount Pulaski and he shutdown Cerro Gordo on just
two hits and five strikeouts.
The Hilltoppers offense exploded for seven runs in the first inning.
A lead-off single by Todd Kelly got things going right away. Drew
Martin wasted no time slugging a triple to score Kelly. Logan
DeRight came through with an RBI single to score Martin. Ben Fricke
added an RBI double to score DeRight. Still with no outs in the
inning, Tanner Farris came up clutch with an RBI single. A fielder's
choice by Grant Davis just kept adding to the lead. Mount Pulaski
got a couple breaks with a dropped third strike and an error that
led to more runs.

By the time Cerro Gordo recorded three outs, Mount Pulaski already
had a 7-0 lead for Martin on the mound.
The Hilltoppers added two runs in the bottom of the second inning.
DeRight led off the inning with a double and he came around to score
on Fricke's base hit. Farris added another RBI single and the
Hilltoppers were cruising 9-0 early. With Martin mowing 'em down
from the mound, Mount Pulaski had little worries in this one.
The Hilltoppers added a run in the fifth inning for fun. A fielder's
choice by Kelly scored Ian Schneider and the final was set in stone,
10-0 in five innings.
Martin gets win and Mount Pulaski improves to 7-2 on the season.
