[April 25, 2019]

Lincoln Speedway is set for its second night of racing this coming Friday, April 26. The night will be a great one for fans, as grandstand admission is just $10 per person with kids 11 and under free. In addition, $1 hot dogs will be sold in the concession stand and $2 beers will be sold in the pavilion.

On track action will be led by the first of two appearances this season for the 305 Winged Sprint Cars. The Sprints have made one appearance in each of the last two years but this year’s schedule also has a second date in July at Lincoln Speedway. The 305’s have a lot of drivers from Central Illinois and run on a semi-regular basis at Jacksonville Speedway. For many, it will be their first race of the season, as weather has wreaked havoc on their early schedule.

Friday night will also mark the start of the season for the Midwest Big Ten Pro Late Models. The Lincoln race is the first of ten events in the mini-series which also runs at Macon Speedway and Jacksonville Speedway. Guy Taylor was the champion of the series in 2018 but is running in the Modified division this year. Jake Little, of Springfield, IL, will be one of the favorites, as he won the championship in 2017 and took second last year. Little bested a field of 16 at the season opener, two weeks ago.

The DIRTcar Modifieds are back this week, as well, and are a staple of Lincoln Speedway. The Mods always have some of the top drivers in the DIRTcar National points, which put on great races week in and week out. Many time Lincoln Speedway champion, Brian Lynn, started off on the right foot with a win on opening night. Lynn’s opening night battle took place with Ray Bollinger and Tommy Sheppard, Jr. hot on his heels. Triumph, though, turned to sadness within a week for the team, as car co-owner, Dale Lessen, passed away unexpectedly. Lessen was a familiar face and longtime supporter of the track.

A small field of Nutech Seed DII Midgets were in action on opening night at the track. Andy Baugh claimed the victory at the opener and will actually pull out a second car for Ray Bollinger to drive this week. Bollinger, a perennial Modified favorite, will be making his first DII Midget start at the track. The Nutech Seed Front Row Challenge was won by Baugh and resets to $100 for this week’s event.

Rounding out Friday night’s action will be the DIRTcar Hornets. Eric Vanapeldoorn claimed the opening night victory, as ten cars were on hand. Nine different Illinois cities were represented by the starting field.

Beautiful weather is forecasted for the evening which is perfect for those coming to take advantage of the discounted prices. Grandstand admission is just $10 for adults with kids 11 and under free. Pits will open at 4:00, grandstands at 5:00, drivers meeting will be at 5:50, hotlaps will start at 6:00, and racing will take the green at 7:00.
