Enel, through its US renewable energy company Enel Green Power North America, has started construction of the 66 MW Whitney Hill wind project in Logan County, Illinois. The project will be located adjacent to the company’s existing 185 MW HillTopper wind farm that began commercial operation in 2018.

“We are pleased to continue bringing clean energy and new economic development to Illinois,” said Brayten McGee, project manager for Whitney Hill. “The construction of Whitney Hill means economic growth for central Illinois, increased tax revenue for community initiatives, and a diversified energy supply for citizens and businesses across the state.”

Whitney Hill is expected to enter into service by the end of 2019 and, once fully operational, will be able to generate around 246 GWh annually. Over the life of the project, Whitney Hill is expected to create over $16 million in property tax revenue and over $17 million in lease payments for local landowners. The facility is owned by Enel Green Power’s subsidiary Whitney Hill Wind Power, LLC. Both the Whitney Hill and HillTopper wind projects were developed by Swift Current Energy.

In Mt. Pulaski, Enel Green Power has helped establish a community development fund that has supported a variety of initiatives critical to the community and representative of Enel’s core sustainability platform.

Enel Green Power North America, part of the Renewable Energies division of the Enel Group, is a leading owner and operator of renewable energy plants in North America with projects operating and under development in 24 US states and two Canadian provinces. EGP operates around 100 plants with a managed capacity exceeding 5 GW powered by renewable hydropower, wind, geothermal and solar energy.
