[August 23, 2019]
Danny Tackett and the Chicken Pickin' Orchestra will perform on the
downtown Lincoln square this Friday, Aug. 23. It's part of the
Balloons Over 66 weekend in the community.
The group will offer renditions of classic country, bluegrass, and
older pop tune or two and some gospel renditions. The performance,
sponsored by the City of Lincoln, will take place from 6 to 8 p.m.
at the corner of Kickapoo and Pulaski streets. Those attending might
consider bringing lawn chairs.
Besides good chances that a hot-air balloon might be floating by
overhead, food and beverages and activities for the kids will be
available on the square.
The Chicken Pickin’ Orchestra has gained a sizable local following
with its monthly gigs for the Atlanta library district above the
Palms Grill in downtown Atlanta. The group will appear there again
in October and November. Information and required reservations are
available by calling 217-648-5077.

Members of the group are Tackett, a Lincoln resident, on lead vocals, rhythm
guitar and fiddle; lead guitarist and vocalist Jimmy Birkey of Hopedale; Rick
Tackett of Stanford on bass; and Elkhart resident Kevin Wilson on five-string
banjo. Wilson is currently on vacation out of state, so the band will feature
special guest Rance Fouts of Pekin filling in on banjo for this performance.
