Then it’s downhill from there, people gather
around and they watch the tv and become engrossed in whatever it is
showing them. They stop visiting, they stop mingling, and they
become a larger version of your family of couch potatoes.
So how do you combat that? Well, you could hide the remote. That
would help, but then you have the one who is insistently searching
for what you have hidden and disrupting the entire room, pulling up
couch cushions, on hand and knees peering under the furniture (and
finding your long lost socks and dust bunnies galore – yes you
cleaned – but not THERE!)
So, what is the answer? Fire up the old smart tv BEFORE your guests
arrive, and lock in something that will serve the purpose of an
occasional glance at the screen and could also spark some
conversation. Music.
We see this a lot, the fireplace burning on the television while
Michael Buble’ croons at us (sorry Michael, we know there are people
out there that love you). But, it can be much more interesting and
still be background to your perfect get together.
First consider your audience. Remember, you don’t want them glued to
the television, but you do want to give them something new to see on
occasion and even to talk about.
We love this video for what should be a quiet evening gathering with
family. Featuring beautiful artwork by renowned artist Thomas
Kinkade, this video will play for just over one hour and features
traditional holiday carols with vocals by well trained professional
choirs.

If your gathering involves a meal, the vocals may not be the best
answer. Instead opt for something instrumental. We chose this video
because it is calming, and subtle, yet it features Christmas music
that we all know and love.
Featuring piano only, this is music that can be turned down low to
play in the background without disrupting the chatter at the table,
yet it fills a void, as we all know that the table gets quiet when
we are all stuffing our faces with food!
This video lasts just over three hours, so turn it on before you
call everyone to the dinner table, and don’t worry about the “dead
air space” all the way through dessert.

After dinner there can be a lull. And appropriately so. Bellies are
full, and all is well at your gathering, but before grandpa unzips
his pants and settles into the Barcalounger for the evening, try
something different; host a sing-a-long right in your living room.
We love this video because first the singers are kids and who
doesn’t love to hear kids sing? Secondly, this is a real sing-a-long
with words appearing on the screen to help those who are unfamiliar
with the music.
The video includes: We wish you (shoe – HA) a merry Christmas,
Jingle bell rock, Silent night, Away in a manger, Joy to the world,
Oh holy night, Dashing through the snow, The Virgin Mary had a baby
boy, God rest ye merry gentlemen, and ends with, A Christmas
lullaby.
Only a couple of these songs are ones we don’t hear often at
Christmas time, but that can be part of the fun, to learn something
new.
The video is 27 minutes long, just about the right amount of time to
keep people interested in the “game.” There are ads embedded in this
video, but use those to your advantage as a good time to get up and
grab a refill of tea, coffee, or whatever spirit moves you.

Love to Sing
If your gathering involves family, then there are going to be kids
that are anxious for the time later in the evening when perhaps
gifts will be handed out and wrapping paper will pile up in the
middle of the room, accented by the happy shouts as kids reveal they
have received the perfect gift. But before that time, those
youngsters can sometimes be little buggers – always bugging the
grownups – “Can we open gifts, when can we open gifts, I don’t want
to go play, I don’t like my cousins!”

Take the kiddos to the family room and challenge them
to sing along with this video. (It will keep them busy and wear them
out!) It will buy you 36 minutes. Songs include Up on the housetop,
The twelve days of Christmas. The video also has a fun version of
B-I-N-G-O substituting the word S-A-N-T-A and the Ten little elves,
modeled after the childhood song, Ten little Indians.

If you are hosting an adult party with close friends or co-workers
then jazz it up a little bit with a throw-back to the days of John
Travolta with a Disco Dance Mix, Christmas style, of course.
This video is 45 minutes long. What you see on the screen isn’t all
that interesting, but, if you’re “getting your groove on,” you’re
not watching anyway.

If your holiday duties this year include hosting the annual party
for your church men or women’s group, then of course, you will want
music that goes along with the spirit of the season. We like this
instrumental collection of favorite Christmas hymns. It is music
that most of us know and enjoy, but it can play quietly in the
background of the room while you and your group share time together.
This video is just over one hour long, so it would be perfect to put
on after the meal to help everyone relax and feel the true spirit of
Christmas and celebrate the real meaning of the season.

Hymns | Traditional Instrumental Christmas Songs
Okay fellas - is this the year? Will you finally bow on bended knee
and pop the question? Yes indeed, the so called experts will tell
you not to propose on a holiday. Those people are also the ones who
will tell you to have a pre-nup and to keep your own checking
account, because they are pessimists! In their mind it is not a
question of IF the relationship doesn’t work out, it’s a matter of
WHEN the relationship will fall apart. And in their mind WHEN it
does, you don’t want your engagement to be a bad memory attached to
what should be a happy time of year.
But here’s the thing. You know it’s right, so it’s time to do
something memorable, and what could be more memorable than a quiet
Christmas Eve, just the two of you, at your place. You cook dinner,
you turn on some romantic music, you turn down the lights, maybe do
a little close, slow dancing and then BOOM – you pop the question!
Seriously, this is no less corny than burying the ring in a baked
potato and people do that all the time.
Set the mood with this lovely jazzy, romantic Christmas playlist.
This grouping lasts just over four hours, plenty of time for you to
work up the nerve, so just go for it!
