At the Logan County Board Workshop on Thursday, December 12, several committees brought forward items to be voted on at Tuesday’s Regular Board meeting.

Building and Grounds Committee Chairman Dave Blankenship said that on Tuesday he will motion for Ideal Environmental Engineering to remove asbestos wrap from the boiler pipes so that the leaks can be remediated. The problems are occurring in the Logan County Courthouse basement. There are upwards of eight boiler pipes that need remediation.

The amount for the remediation would be $26,000.41

Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Ruben said the amount can be taken from the Building and Grounds Maintenance Fund. That line item is about $60,000.

Blankenship said there is also a situation with some fiber optic cable. He asked Logan County Highway Engineer Bret Aukamp to explain the situation.

Aukamp said the county has fiber optic cable running from the courthouse to various county buildings so the county offices can all use the servers at the courthouse. One of the cables runs to the health department and that cable also runs under the property formerly occupied by the streets and alley department. That property must be excavated due to soil contamination.

Aukamp said Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) is doing a large clean-up project at that location. The health department cable is in the way and must be moved.

Aukamp has worked out an agreement with ComEd for them to cover the costs of relocating the cable. In the agreement, Aukamp said ComEd will cover the costs up front and reimburse the county for any overage. The total cost to install the cable is $102,796.

On Tuesday, Blankenship will motion to accept the reimbursement agreement.

Airport and Farm Committee Update

Blankenship said there are tile sinkholes out at the airport. The Airport and Farm Committee approved $1,350 for repairs.

Another item the committee approved was for the farm tenant to remove some trees and hedge at the airport for $8,000, but Blankenship said due to limited time, the tenant will not be able to do it.

The committee then went out for a different proposal. On Tuesday, Blankenship will motion to accept Leesman Contract Services in the amount of $4,875. They were the only bidders.

Board members present were Dave Blankenship, Emily Davenport, Janet Estill, Bob Farmer, Cameron Halpin, Chuck Ruben, Bob Sander, Scott Schaffenacker, Annette Welch and Jim Wessbecher. David Hepler and Steve Jenness were absent.

Guests present were Derek Martin of the Logan County Farm Bureau, Logan County Treasurer Penny Thomas, Logan County Coroner Bob Thomas, and County Highway Engineer Bret Aukamp.

The voting session of the Logan County Board takes place on Tuesday, December 17th at 6 p.m. at the Logan County Courthouse.
