The Lincoln College Women’s Basketball team jumped over the .500 mark for the first time this season with recent victories over Judson University and MacMurray College.

Lincoln traveled to Elgin, Illinois on Thursday, January 31st to defeat Judson 77-61. LC Maintained a lead throughout most of the contest and was led in scoring by junior forward Erynn Young (Indinapolis, IN) who was good for 25 points. Three other Lady Lynx reached double-digits in scoring as well. They included Chicago native Nautica Preston (15 points), Lincoln Community High grad Hannah Cameron (12 points) and Rockford’s Victoria Malone (10 points).

“This was probably our most consistent effort of the season,” said Lincoln Head Coach DeRonte Polite. “We started strong and ended stronger, without any major letdowns in between. We played Lady Lynx basketball—having multiple threats on the court and sharing the ball. This was a good road win for us,” he added.

Lincoln was able to keep their positive momentum going on Friday, February 1st when they faced MacMurray College for the team’s final home event of the season. The Lady Lynx took control of the game right away and outscored MC 24-9 in the first quarter. LC was able to maintain a comfortable lead the rest of the way and cruise to a 99-45 victory to push their record to 13-12 on the season.

Stat sheet leaders for the Lady Lynx included Erynn Young who had a team-high 19 points and sophomore Kaleia Monteiro who grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the defensive effort for her team. Freshman Kennedy Lolling (Lincoln) was just one point behind Young for the team lead with 18 points scored.

Coach Polite saw the win as a testament to the progress his players have made this season. “In our first home game our fans witnessed us being run off the floor in a lopsided loss,” remarked Coach Polite. “Since then our home fans have witnessed this team grow, and I am glad that we were able to give them something to cheer for in our last home game of the season.”

Next up for Lincoln will be a short trip across town on Tuesday evening to play Lincoln Christian University. Tip-off is set for 5:00 PM.
